Football & Fashion: NFL Veteran Vonnie Holliday raises brain cancer awareness
We love attending fashion events with a purpose. So you can imagine that we were stoked when we heard about Football & Fashion, a fundraising event hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue and NFL veteran Vonnie Holliday to raise funds and awareness for brain cancer, which claimed the life of Chandria Kent, Vonnie’s sister-in-law back in 2008. Initially, she was given only six months to live, Chandria fought and beat all medical odds for five years before succumbing to the illness. Chandria’s untimely death and illness left a void in the lives of Vonnie and Ebony Holliday. Vonnie stated, “After you watch someone you love suffer with the disease, you learn a lot. I want to make sure people are aware of the disease because it is one that is rarely talked about in mainstream media.” Through his foundation Vonnie and Ebony, hope to increase the support available to families who are impacted by brain cancer, all auction proceeds will benefit the Brain Tumor Program at the Winship Cancer Institute located at Emory University.
The event featured a silent auction with sports memorabilia from some of the most know athletes in the game! In fact the highlight of the eventing was a Kobe Bryant autographed basketball which was auctioned away for a cool grand! There is still time for you to support this cause. Vonnie Holliday will host an autograph signing today, at Saks Fifth Avenue, located at Phipps Plaza from 2-4 p.m. You’ll have plenty of time to bid on some of the great items from their silent auction. By the way ladies one of the silent auction items was a date with Takeo Spikes, so if you are interested!! Hustle on over to Saks to bid on a date with your future boo ; )
