Alicia Keys’ Stylist Wouri Vice Chats with I Am Fashion Weak

1. What determines the style that you select for an artists day-to-day look?

When selecting an artists day to day look the main factor is comfort and then style. The whole goal is to look great, but not “on” so a great shoe and a wonderful bag goes a long way…

2.  What gives you the most gratification about being a stylist?

I would have to say when people are inspired to push their fashion limits based on things that I have done with one of my artists…ie the boots Alicia Keys wore for the Yankee Game. A lot of women have gone out to find over the knee boots in colors

3.  You style artist for red carpet events, videos, and performances.  What important style elements do you play-up for each?

The most important style element over all is the tailored fit to make sure that things are in place and not sloppy.

4. Who are some of your other celebrity clients?

I have worked with Taraji Henson, Ciara, Monica, Keri Hilson, Chris Rock, Queen Latifah, and Mike Epps just to name a few.

5.  How long have you been a stylist for Alicia Keys?

I have been working with Alicia Keys since 2002, but we have known each other since the early 90′s!

6.  How does the day begin for Wouri Vice?

My day begins with prayer.

7. What are some misconceptions that people have about stylist?

Most people think that our job is extremely glammed out! However its quite the oppisite!

8.  At what point in your life did you feel that being a stylist was something that you could aspire to do?

I felt that being a stylist was something I could do when I studied the work of Misa Hylton. She was the pioneer of Ghetto Fabolousity that inspired major trends from Harlem to Milan.

9. Talk to us about Spring trends, give us an idea of your favorite day-to-day or wear into night look?

Scarves make the difference! They can jazz anything up…its the new jean!
